Overlooking the Calheta pier, the first harbour of Graciosa island, and the church of Senhora da Boa Nova (which symbolically lends its name to the hostel), it is located about 500m from the town centre, which gives it a privileged location. With a familiar and simple atmosphere, but guaranteeing at the same time a quality service, you will find in Boa Nova Hostel the ideal refuge to rest after your visit to Graciosa island.
Boa Nova Hostel is located in the centre of Santa Cruz da Graciosa, Azores, in a totally restored building and (re)created with the objective of receiving, with all the comfort and quality, the guests that want to visit us. Being this house so special for our family, we wanted to share it, and its wonderful view to the blue of the Atlantic, with the visitors who come to know the island of Graciosa, considered by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve.
Teresa was born on the island of São Miguel, but since childhood she has spent her holidays on the island of Graciosa, where her mother was born. This explains her love for the island and, perhaps because of this, she insisted that her daughters, Maria and Catarina, enjoy the Azores from an early age, spending a large part of their summer holidays in Graciosa. The building where the Boa Nova Hostel is situated belonged to several generations of her family, since her great-grandfather. Nowadays, the same building also houses the house that is Teresa's favourite place to rest during holidays.
António comes from Trás-os-Montes, a long way from the beauty of the Azores. However, the peace and tranquillity of Graciosa made him fall in love with this island in the Azores. Reading is one of his hobbies, which he enjoys practicing by the sea, enjoying the wonderful view of the Calheta quay, and with the Atlantic as a backdrop. In the evening, he often meets in the central square of Santa Cruz, where he socialises with friends or watches the singing of those who join in the singing. He was responsible for the restoration of several elements of the Boa Nova Hostel, being also possible to observe pieces of his authorship, in black basalt stone.
Catarina is the younger sister and the person responsible for the idea of building the hostel, as well as for the development and execution of the project. She works in Lisbon as a civil engineer, but is in love with the island of Graciosa, which she doesn't change as a summer holiday destination. Her perceptiveness and entrepreneurial profile are clearly evident in the way she idealised and made Boa Nova Hostel operational, creating an innovative space full of good energy, so that all those who visit us want to return and enjoy this wonderful island.
Maria is a nutritionist and is responsible for the project "Põe-te na linha". As an older sister, and also living in Lisbon, she has developed a strong bond with the island of Graciosa, a place she has visited every summer since she was a child. She is the mother of Vasco, a little boy who had his first flight at the age of two months, to get to know the island for which her family has such great affection. She will be responsible for making Boa Nova Hostel known to all those who want to visit, through the management of its social networks.
